OK, now I've calmed down a bit, here's one thing that was probably behind my mood yesterrday.
As I said, my daughter is in the local panto, and the dress reheasal was on Monday night. The guy who is playing the dame, I have done shows with him before and never really liked him much, but from rehearsals daughter has said he is really nice and friendly. On Monday evening I realised why - this guy, who must be in his 40s, is all over the young girls, but can't be bothered even to be civil to old farts like me.
She is playing the principal boy's sidekick, and has the typical costume of fishnets, stillettoes and very short tunic - at one point she and and the PB (who is in her 20s) were walking up the backstage stairs while this guy was standing at the bottom with a group of other blokes, and he made a remark in my hearing. I probably should have said: 'You do realise she's my daughter, and only 16!' but I didn't because I hate confrontation.
Right, now i've got that off my chest... and the first night went really well last night (there was a whole Brownie pack in the audience, and they got really into it).

OMG that must have been horribly hard to hear. I wonder if your daughter is aware of what a letch he is? I remember so many men that we came into contact with when we were that age and how they would leer and fancy their chances. I think I felt a mixture of amusement, revulsion and pity for them and if questioned I would probably have said to another adult that they were friendly and kept it simple. It's a frightening thought to think of the years ahead when I'll be viewing these toads as a parent of our daughters - I doubt there will be any amusement then!! I hope the final show goes well. Lou

We talked about it in the car on the way home, she said she had heard what he said and half expected me to say something, it was really good to chat about it though and she is very sensible - she also said that the thought of somebody that age gives her the creeps -HOORAY!!
A girl she knows from school, who is a year older, got together with a 30-something bloke (married with 2 kids) who is also in this group, we have talked about that too - she cannot see the attraction at all and thinks the girl is mad - thank god for that, I say.
I was never really conscious of being letched at, I always considered myself to be sexless, if you have read about my neuroses in any other of my postings you will see this all fits in with my general self image - I'm still pathetically grateful if any man with just the one head pays attention to me (even Zaphod Beeblebrox has a certain charm... in his original incarnation, that is!)
I used to do amateur dramatics at that age, and definitely had the measure of guys like that. Glad to hear your daughter's sensible. I have a 16 year old who sings on stage, and I empathise with you completely.
I think we just have to trust them!

Speaking as a randy old letch and, by default, on behalf of the others ... I'm sorry that we can sometimes be offensive. Uttering our private musings out loud is bad manners. Happily most young women/girls seem perfectly able to take care of themselves and I'm happy that your daughter seems pretty much level headed.
But ... I think there is an unfortunate truth being touched upon here. The genetic imperative will out. If we are being "civilised" we manage to triumph over our lusts, but there are some of us who find that very difficult. Of course, moving from thought to deed is a whole different fishkettle.
Maybe some people (male and female this time) have a pdychological issue that drives us, along the lines of "you are only as old as [the person] you feel". Not necessarily me, though. I have loved and made love to women more than a decade older than me, as well as a decade or two younger than me. The issue isn't the age of the woman, its her romantic and sexual attraction.
Finally, pantomimes. Why the heck do you think they do the cross dressing leg showing stuff? It's simply and bloody well only because its sexy. Nobody is forcing women into these costumes - if you don't like 'em, change 'em. Its what liberating women was about, isn't it?
Hope you have a really nice xmastime, though, and that the panto is super.
