What the HELL has happened to The Archers??? 88|
I’m all for gritty realism, but…
First we had Alistair’s gambling addiction; then Tom getting on the wrong side of the country show mafia; then Robert losing his job; then Adam and Ian falling out over Ian’s plan to have a baby with Mads; then Ed coming back as a drunk and a crack addict…
And don’t you just know that these ‘tests’ Ian has to have are going to show up something seriously nasty??? (or, at least, they’ll string us along for a few weeks making us think they will - but it'll all work out in the end).
And now Sam is trying it on with RUTH of all people????
Now, I live in a small village, and I know the rural idyll is not all it’s cracked up to be, but honestly…

Have you discovered the Archers Anarchists? I love listening to the programme but practically eveybody in it irritates me! I like the AA approach.

Sam's been lusting after ruth for a-g-e-s... Perhaps all that No-o-o-o-u-u-u-h-h-h sounds better in the sack ;D
I hadn't thought of the lovely Ian having something nasty!
But what about Brian and Siobhan? And Debbie's personality change since the whiney Adam's return?
Addicted? Me? :D

Yes, I had thought about Brian and Siobhan, but that's just old stuff, really. Adultery has always been part of the core plot line (and don't even mention Clarrie and Mike...).
My friend Kate said something about Sam and Ruth ages ago, but I just dismissed it - until I heard Sunday's episode - to be honest, I haven't been listening that religiously recently. Of course, we all know she's fancied him from the word go. But Ruth and David are indissoluble, surely, like Robert and Linda, or Wolfgang and... Damn, what is that other llama's name??? CONSTANZA, of course, how could I forget???

Well, I have penned some alternative Archers stuff and Brian and Jennifer and Robert and Lynda have a little extra something in their marriage...lol Brian calls it family values and Lynda as marital therapy... ;D
Apparently David is due a blast from the past. Do you remember the lovely Sophie? I'd love it to be her...

PS Can I point out that I knew Ian was going to be the love of Adam's life from the first episode he appeared in, when he was just going to be the temporary stand in for Jean-Paul, even before they'd met, even before we were supposed to know he was gay???
Hah!!!
How's that for blowing my own trumpet???

I'm seriously impressed by that! I seem to remember him seeming interested in Helen - perhaps it was the boyish figure?

I guess that was just because he's such a sweet, compassionate guy. But would that have been before or after Greg's sad demise? I lose track. Maybe I blanked it out because I was already convinced he was gay.
Sophie was WAY before my time. I remember I started listening round about the time Ruth and David were celebrating their first wedding anniversary. I guess that was the year we came back from the States, when I was stuck at home with a baby and a toddler going slowly demented, and Radio 4 was my lifeline - it would have been 1989. Sesame Street came on at 1:30, so I used to aim to get the little one to sleep for a nap after lunch, plonk the lad in front of the box, sit down with a cup of tea and listen to the 1:40 repeat (as it was then) after WATO.
The extent of my interest has fluctuated since then depending on how exciting the rest of my life was!

PS Obviously, I was the one going demented, not my son! (or maybe both of us - all 2-year olds are a bit that way).
And now he's a big hulking 20 year old with his own car, about to start his first serious job next week!

after Greg's death - That's why she was so skinny! Now I feel old - I consider myself an 'incomer, because I've only been listening since about 1985! I didn't realise David had moved onto Ruth so quickly - The bastard!
My passion for The Archers has been unabated once I recovered from fact I was actually listening to the thing in first place!

Did you hear the implication that Sophie and David didn't do 'it' and she regretted it? Makes her more dangerous, I suspect...

Absolutely!!!
Who hasn't felt the lure of 'if only...'?
But did you know that the actress playing Sophie was actually the Rev Janet Fisher in a previous incarnation??? (so I've been informed)

No!!!! They do that, don't they? Recycle actors I mean! So the breathy 'Sofe'is the sensible and gentle Janet... Gosh I shall have to listen carefully. She really is being very naughty and Daveed is just pathetic. Mind you if Zandra Rhodes tells you to have fun - Well...
