Thought I would sit down and work out what my income is in my own right. As we are now half way through the financial year, it seemed like a good time to do it.
So, my reliable income (ie from clerking) since April is: £2261
From the magazine (this will go down drastically as they have reduced the number of pages to save money): £2583
Additional/consultancy(who knows whether any more will come my way?): 500 Euros
Projected for the second half of the year (now till March):
Clerking: £2628
Magazine: £1071
Additional: 6,000 Euros
Projected total for year: £8532 and 6500 Euros
I make this a grand total of £14,335 - of which approximately a third (£5803) is the Euro consultancy work, which may or may not be repeated.
I could probably live on £14k - as long as I knew that was what I was going to get every year.
But I don't think £8.5k of (semi)reliable income will be enough to pay rent and bills

I daren't look at my finances. I don't have an income as such apart from £388 a month pension. My house is paid for and I'm living off the small amount of equity I got when I sold up in the UK.
I guess I'll be looking at ways to economise but live quite frugally already!
Ah well - I've got my health and a lovely view

A house and £388/month sounds like more than I could hope for. I don't have any pension at all, I've started making voluntary National Insurance contributions because I realised I don't even have a long enough employment history to get a state pension when I theoretically qualify in ten years time.
